Job description

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to be a core contributor to detection across Crusoe's platform, collaborating with the Fleet, CMK, and Data teams. You will own the correlation, deduplication, and lifecycle logic that turns detector signals into customer-facing insights, while contributing core detection logic to strengthen the platform.

This is a full software engineering role where you will ship customer-facing features, build systems from scratch, and scale existing services alongside a team of strong generalist engineers. What sets you apart is your deep expertise in anomaly detection, heuristics, machine learning (including RL), and agentic applications applied to global-scale infrastructure. Beyond your technical contributions, you will be a cultural bar-raiser and force multiplier who elevates the entire team’s craft.

You will report to the Engineering Manager of the CIA team.

What You'll Be Working On:

  • Detection & Intelligence Ownership: Own correlation and deduplication logic. Build heuristics for thresholds, grouping rules, and severity scoring to generate precise, customer-facing insights.
  • Anomaly Detection Pipelines: Partner with the Data team on fleet-level anomaly detection, mapping outputs to actionable insights for tenants.
  • Signal Calibration: Drive detection fidelity by reducing false positives, expanding signal coverage, and building feedback loops to maintain accurate thresholds as the fleet grows.
  • Intelligence Layer (ML/RL & Agentic): Partner with the applied science team to integrate ML/RL outputs into customer alerting, translating model signals into sharp, actionable judgment calls.
  • Product Engineering: Ship customer-facing features end-to-end across the CIA stack, including alert rule engines, control plane APIs, action workflows, and insight delivery surfaces.
  • 0-to-1 & Scale: Build new systems from scratch and scale existing ones to support Crusoe's rapidly growing global fleet.
  • System Design & Collaboration: Drive cross-team design discussions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and collaborate with product teams to shape early requirements.
  • Technical Mentorship: Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and coaching, while helping define our hiring standards.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • Anomaly Detection & Heuristics Expertise: Deep experience building anomaly detection systems, heuristics-based rule engines, or ML/RL systems for infrastructure or data-intensive domains.
  • Threshold & Signal Calibration: Proven ability to navigate precision/recall trade-offs and build continuous feedback loops that keep detection systems accurate.
  • Distributed Systems Fundamentals: Strong foundation in building reliable, scalable backend systems and leading complex architectural discussions.
  • Full Software Engineering Craft: 5+ years of experience shipping production software using modern compiled or systems languages (Go, Rust, C++, Java, or similar).
  • Data & Observability Fluency: Expertise with time-series data, telemetry pipelines, and observability primitives to turn raw metrics into actionable insights.
  • Communication & Mentorship: Ability to clearly explain complex logic and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical partners, coupled with a drive to elevate the team through clear vision and mentorship.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with GPU profiling tools (Nsight, NCCL Inspector) or hardware-level infrastructure diagnostics.
  • Background in observability platforms or products.
  • Experience shipping production agentic applications, such as LLM-based agents for triage, root-cause analysis, or automation.
  • Experience with reinforcement learning applied to operational or infrastructure problems.
  • Familiarity with large-scale fleet management or cloud infrastructure.
  • Passion for building team culture and engineering quality of life.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and equity packages
  • Restricted Stock Units
  • Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs
  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance
  • Employer contributions to HSA account
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
  • Professional development & tuition reimbursement
  • Mental health & wellness support
  • Commuter benefits (parking & transit)
  • Cell phone stipend
  • 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary
  • Volunteer time off
  • Global travel insurance & emergency assistance
  • Daily meals allowance
  • Additional perks & programs specific to location

Compensation Range

Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $210,000 - $255,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
