Job description

Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human level intelligence. Its robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA.

The Middleware team builds the frameworks and infrastructure that every piece of software on the robot runs on: the messaging layer, the service lifecycle, and the tooling that keeps our entire fleet reliable and observable through every operation. Code written here runs on every robot we ship.

We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to help us rebuild the core services that start, supervise, and monitor the robot's software modules, with real ownership of the design and the result deployed on hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a system service that manages the lifecycle of the robot's software modules with a keen focus on reliability, efficiency, testability, and maintainability.
  • Create fast, responsive C++ CLI/TUI tooling for operating that service.
  • Build end-to-end tests covering the service and its tooling so they stay dependable across releases.
  • Work from an existing high-level design with the Middleware team, and contribute to the detailed design, code review, and deployment of the result on real robots.

Requirements:

  • Rising senior or recent graduate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field; must be graduating within one year[Internship length, e.g., minimum 10 weeks]
  • Fluent with modern C++ (>20)
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Deep understanding of Linux.
  • Passion for developing well tested frameworks and infrastructure that just works day in and day out for years to come.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience working on embedded systems and timing sensitive environments.

The US base pay range for this full-time position is $40.00 to $45.00 per hour.

The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
