Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.

SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a member of the data center engineering team you will design, build, and activate some of the world’s most technically advanced data center facilities. You will be the subject matter expert on thermal management, pumping, flow control, HVAC, and other critical fluid systems. You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of data center and compute technology. This role involves design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of data center systems and support elements. You will work with other engineering disciplines, construction managers, architects and internal customers to both identify needs and accomplish goals. The position is based in Memphis, TN.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for owning and being the subject matter expert on fluid/HVAC components across data center builds– chillers, pumps, dry coolers, chemical treatment, water storage, building pressurization, comfort heating/ cooling, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and systems.
  • Perform CAD modeling and design of these systems. Deconflict your design with other disciplines in three dimensions.
  • Perform fluid analyses for pressure balance, component design allowable, and consumables determination.
  • Coordinate with procurement, construction and other disciplines to select, apply and procure equipment to your design that meets the timeline, cost profile and performance required for the build.
  • When designing for internal manufacturing partners, ensure designs are manufacturable and reliable; work with the production team to ensure a smooth transition to a reliable manufacturing process that has minimal design engineering sustainment engineering required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of professional experience working with various fluids components such as valves, pumps, COPVs, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure transducers, or temperature sensors.

SENIOR LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • PE License
  • 10+ years of professional experience working with various fluids components such as valves, pumps, COPVs, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure transducers, or temperature sensors.
  • Proven track record of effective management and leadership

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Professional Engineering licensure.
  • Consulting experience in the data center market - AI specific experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid (liquid and/or gas) handling systems.
  • Experience using data acquisition equipment, as well as test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays.
  • Experience with HVAC systems and air ducting.
  • Experienced in REVIT with a solid understanding and application of parametric design tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
