Agent Development Kit (ADK)
Project record
Agent Development Kit (ADK) is an open-source framework from Google for building, evaluating, and deploying AI agents, from single agents to multi-agent systems and graph-based workflows. Google publishes implementations for Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, and Kotlin. The README says ADK is optimized for Gemini but model-agnostic.18

Public materials checklist
| Item | Status | Notes and evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Source codeIs the source code publicly readable? | Public | Public repositories for each language implementation; framework code only.18 |
| DocumentationIs user documentation published? | Public | Public official documentation at adk.dev.810 |
| InstallationAre installation instructions or packages publicly available? | Public | The installation guide covers pip (google-adk) for Python, npm for TypeScript, go get for Go, and Maven or Gradle for Java and Kotlin.91 |
| Supported platformsAre supported operating systems or hardware documented? | Public | The Python package requires Python 3.10 or newer. The installation guide states that ADK Go v2.0.0 requires Go 1.25 or later; the Java example targets Java 17.19 |
| Release statusAre versioned releases published? | Public | Reviewed adk-python v2.10.0, marked Latest and published September 25, 2026; the README describes a roughly bi-weekly release cadence. Other language implementations are versioned separately. This entry describes the project rather than one release.141 |
What it is useful for
Defining agents, tools, and workflows in code, testing them with a command-line runner and a development web UI, and deploying them in containers or on Google Cloud. ADK is a framework that calls models chosen by the developer: Gemini through Google's hosted services, which are not open, other hosted providers, or self-hosted models through documented connectors. It does not include model weights.110
Run and use notes
- The model documentation describes connecting self-hosted models through Ollama and vLLM via the LiteLLM connector (ADK Python), and running models locally with LiteRT-LM (ADK Python and Kotlin). The Ollama guide says to use the ollama_chat provider prefix and to choose a model with tool support when agents use tools.10111213
