Weights & Biases Python SDK (wandb)

Version 0.30.0

Maintained by Weights & Biases (a CoreWeave company)134

wandb is the open-source Python library and command-line tool for Weights & Biases. Training scripts and notebooks use it to record runs with their hyperparameters and metrics on a W&B server, where results can be viewed and compared; a Public API in the same SDK queries logged data afterward.246Fact reviewed Oct 1, 2026

Availability and license

Overall availability

Public

Source code is public on GitHub under the MIT License, and the package installs from PyPI with pip install wandb. Logging results requires a W&B account and API key for a W&B server, which is a separate hosted or self-managed service.1342

Availability fact review: Oct 1, 2026

Availability is separate from permission: read the license before using or redistributing.

The MIT license covers the code in the wandb repository. The W&B platform that the library logs to is provided under W&B's Master Service Agreement, not under this license.37Fact reviewed Oct 1, 2026

Component reuse rights

A readable or downloadable component is not automatically reusable. These indicators concern recorded license evidence, not system certification.

What it is useful for

Tracking, visualizing, and comparing machine learning experiments, and adding experiment tracking and data versioning to existing projects through W&B's integrations with ML frameworks and libraries.26Fact reviewed Oct 1, 2026

Run and use notes

Documented facts only. No hardware or performance claims are made without a cited source and stated assumptions.
  • The README documents three hosting options for the W&B server that the library logs to: multi-tenant cloud, dedicated cloud, and self-managed deployment on AWS, GCP, Azure, or on-premises infrastructure.2

CoreWeave launches Forge, bringing Weights & Biases Models into one AI development platform

CoreWeave announced CoreWeave Forge on September 30, 2026, a development platform that brings training, inference, evaluation, and agent development into one environment. Forge includes Weights & Biases Models for tracking and comparing experiments. Weights & Biases, which CoreWeave acquired in 2025, says W&B software-as-a-service accounts now sign in through CoreWeave Forge and that self-hosted and dedicated deployments are unchanged. The open-source wandb client library remains available under the MIT License.

U.S. eligibility

Project eligibility rests on documented governing or maintaining entities, not on contributors.

Eligible · basis: U.S.-governed project

The wandb repository is maintained under the wandb GitHub organization by Weights & Biases; PyPI lists Weights & Biases as the package author, and the MIT license names Weights and Biases, Inc. as copyright holder. Weights & Biases' Master Service Agreement gives its principal place of business as San Francisco, California, and CoreWeave, a Delaware corporation headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey, acquired all of its equity in May 2025. The SDK reference is now published in CoreWeave's documentation.143786
