Apache License 2.0 with LLVM Exceptions
This is the Apache License, Version 2.0 followed by two exceptions headed "LLVM Exceptions to the Apache 2.0 License". The LLVM Project's license file states that the project "is under the Apache License v2.0 with LLVM Exceptions". The SPDX License List records the exception as LLVM-exception and notes that it "was created specifically to be used with Apache-2.0". The Apache 2.0 terms apply in full except where the two exceptions change them.12
These notes restate parts of the license text so you know what to look for. They are not complete, are not legal advice, and do not tell you whether a particular use is allowed. The license text governs.
What the license text says
- Base license
- The full Apache License 2.0 text comes first, including its copyright and patent grants, its redistribution conditions in Section 4, its trademark clause, and its warranty disclaimer. The LLVM exceptions are appended after the Apache terms.1
- Embedded compiled portions
- If compiling your source code embeds portions of the software into an object form of that code, you may redistribute those embedded portions in that object form "without complying with the conditions of Sections 4(a), 4(b) and 4(d) of the License."12
- Combining with GPLv2 software
- If you combine or link compiled forms with software licensed under the GPLv2, and a court determines that the patent provision (Section 3), the indemnity provision (Section 9), or another section conflicts with the GPLv2, you may choose to treat those sections as waived, "but only in their entirety and only with respect to the Combined Software."12
