License guide
What the licenses on open models, software, and datasets in this catalog actually say, in plain words, with the records that use each one. Every guide restates the license text and links to it. This is general information, not legal advice: read the license itself before you rely on it.
One release can carry several licenses, for example one for its weights and another for its code. Start with what open weight and open source actually mean if the difference is new to you.
Permissive open-source licenses
- Apache License 2.0The Apache License, Version 2.0, dated January 2004, is a permissive license published by the Apache Software Foundation for software and other works of authorship. Each contributor grants copyright and patent licenses, and the conditions deal mainly with passing on the license and keeping notices when the work is redistributed.163 uses in the catalog
- MIT LicenseThe MIT License is a short permissive license for software. Its standard text is listed on the SPDX License List under the identifier MIT and is reproduced by the Open Source Initiative. The text is a template that begins with a copyright line naming the year and the copyright holders of each project that uses it.67 uses in the catalog
- BSD 3-Clause LicenseThe BSD 3-Clause License, listed on the SPDX License List as the BSD 3-Clause "New" or "Revised" License, is a short permissive license. It permits redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, under three conditions. The text is a template in which each project supplies its own copyright line.8 uses in the catalog
- Apache License 2.0 with LLVM ExceptionsThis is the Apache License, Version 2.0 followed by two exceptions headed "LLVM Exceptions to the Apache 2.0 License". The LLVM Project's license file states that the project "is under the Apache License v2.0 with LLVM Exceptions". The SPDX License List records the exception as LLVM-exception and notes that it "was created specifically to be used with Apache-2.0". The Apache 2.0 terms apply in full except where the two exceptions change them.3 uses in the catalog
- BSD 2-Clause LicenseThe BSD 2-Clause License, listed on the SPDX License List as the BSD 2-Clause "Simplified" License, is a short permissive license. It permits redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, under two conditions about keeping the copyright notice. The text is a template in which each project supplies its own copyright line.2 uses in the catalog
