Apache License 2.0
The Apache License, Version 2.0, dated January 2004, is a permissive license published by the Apache Software Foundation for software and other works of authorship. Each contributor grants copyright and patent licenses, and the conditions deal mainly with passing on the license and keeping notices when the work is redistributed.1

These notes restate parts of the license text so you know what to look for. They are not complete, are not legal advice, and do not tell you whether a particular use is allowed. The license text governs.
What the license text says
- Copyright grant
- Each contributor grants a "perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable" copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the work in source or object form (Section 2).1
- Patents
- Each contributor also grants a patent license covering its own contributions (Section 3). If you start patent litigation alleging that the work infringes a patent, the patent licenses granted to you for that work "shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed."1
- Redistribution conditions
- Anyone redistributing the work must give recipients a copy of the license, mark modified files with "prominent notices stating that You changed the files," keep the copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices, and carry forward the notices in any NOTICE file (Section 4).1
- Terms for your modifications
- You may add your own copyright statement to your modifications and may offer additional or different license terms for them, or for a derivative work as a whole, provided your use and distribution of the original work still complies with the license (Section 4).1
- Trademarks
- The license "does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor," except for customary use in describing where the work came from and reproducing the NOTICE file (Section 6).1
- No warranty
- The work is provided on an "AS IS" basis without warranties or conditions of any kind, and contributors are not liable for damages except where applicable law requires or they agree in writing (Sections 7 and 8).1
