IBM releases Granite Switch 4.1 models combining chat, decisions, and speech-to-text under Apache 2.0
IBM's Granite team published Granite Switch 4.1 in two sizes, granite-switch-4.1-8b and granite-switch-4.1-30b, whose model cards give a release date of October 14, 2026 and an Apache 2.0 license. The model cards describe each one as a modular model that composes a base model (granite-4.1-8b or granite-4.1-30b), multiple adapters, and an encoder so that chat, decision, safety-detection, and speech-to-text tasks are served from one endpoint. A Granite blog post on Hugging Face dated October 15, 2026 names the bundled parts as a Decision aLoRA, a Guardian aLoRA, and Granite-Speech-5.0-Turbo-CTC; the 8b model card says the speech component supports English only. USASI has not tested these models.123
