David Heinemeier Hansson

Creator of Omarchy, a Linux system that sets up local-model tools such as Ollama and LM Studio

  • Co-owner, 37signals1
  • President, Omacom Foundation1

David Heinemeier Hansson created Omarchy, an open-source Linux system released under the MIT License, and earlier created the Ruby on Rails web framework. Omarchy's manual has a Local LLMs section that recommends LM Studio and Ollama for finding and running open-weight models, and its Install > AI menu installs either one, along with agent apps such as Hermes and OpenClaw. Heinemeier Hansson is a co-owner of 37signals, where Omarchy is incubated. In September 2026, Heinemeier Hansson announced that the Omacom Foundation will sponsor 0xSero's local AI work through Sybil Solutions for three years, to make local models work well out of the box on Omarchy.12347

Work

  • Omarchy (external site: omarchy.org)

Created Omarchy, an MIT-licensed Linux system. Its manual's Local LLMs section recommends LM Studio, for finding, installing, and running open-weight models through a graphical app, and Ollama, for doing the same from the command line; both install from the Install > AI menu.1234

  • Ollama setup in Omarchy

Omarchy's Install > AI menu installs Ollama, choosing the CUDA build when it detects an NVIDIA GPU and the ROCm build when it detects an AMD GPU, and its removal command deletes Ollama together with the models it downloaded.563

  • Hermes and OpenClaw in Omarchy

Omarchy can install Hermes Desktop and make Hermes, Nous Research's agent, or OpenClaw the default agent. Its manual documents how Omarchy manages the Hermes runtime and OpenClaw's Control UI with its own local gateway.35
